SilkRoad Marketplace has been seized by the FBI, Bitcoin price falls

On October 2, 2013, Ross William Ulbricht, known as 'Dread Pirate Roberts', was arrested in San Francisco. He was reportedly in possession of 26,000 bitcoins with a market value of $3.6 million. The sealed complaint from the U.S. Attorney suggests that, "As of July 23, 2013, there were approximately 957,079 registered user accounts reflected on the server." This information comes from an image of the "Silk Road Web Server" made by the FBI on that date. The complaint also suggests that law enforcement officials have detailed information on the "use of certain Bitcoin wallets in the operation of Silk Road's escrow system."Wikipedia

    1. This shutdown has nothing to do with a vulnerability in Bitcoin nor TOR anonymous network. The IDIOT Ross William Ulbricht ordered fraudulent identity cards which were seized in transit to his house and negotiated the development of the site with his personal email address.

    2. Tor has not been compromised: its designers always flatly stated that it was not designed to protect a resource against someone with global data monitoring access.

  2. People don't panic there will be a more secure alternative for SilkRoad Marketplace. Big gap in the market now.

  3. I sold all my BitCoins a few weeks ago and I am excited. I have no problem with the SilkRoad itself, but I can't wait to see how low this bottoms out so I can buy back in.

You gotta love the panic sellers.

  4. This is probably the reason why the price just dropped. Someone sent 1767 to the wrong Bitcoin address, and that person probably sold it all off. Now everyone is panicking.
